La Esse

The project is the result of a collaboration with Politecnico and one of the largest supermarket chains in Italy: Esselunga. The aim was to design a small neighbourhood supermarket, in this case, in the centre of Milan in a historic building. We started from people’s habits but above all from their ways of shopping, trying to design a space that would fulfil the needs of the user. Our idea starts by demolishing the concept that the Mediterranean diet is the only healthy and nutritious one, and how the combination of raw materials from various parts of the world is the basis for the creation of new hybrid diets. With this concept we created Fusee, a supermarket equipped with screens and dedicated to accompanying the buyer in the creation of new and different recipes. In fact, on each shelf, divided by product category, you will find various brands from all over the world. Another characteristic is the design of this space, a design also founded on the idea of fusion between materials from all parts of the world, with a fluid form that accompanies the user throughout the supermarket. In addition to the study of communication and wayfinding, there is a focus on the part of developing an app, which gives you the possibility of scanning the products, recommending recipes and electing all the nutrients of the product.
